Critique – “Sempiternal” by mippieArt
Sempiternal – everlasting, timeless
Disclaimer – I am a personal friend of the artist and have commissioned works from her previously. I am not a trained visual artist, nor am I a trained critic of the visual arts.
The image is well composed in shades of green, blue back and white. Upon viewing my eye travels the glare bottom white of a butterfly wing through the curve echoed in darkened cloud form to the plate like moon and then drifting the shoulder, knee arm and hip of the face swaddled figure to fix upon the single black winged butterfly posed upon the foot.
Hungered my mind longs for the coloring flames and sapphires of the butterflies, the textures are there and I feel/know that in another environment they would bloom in their natural hues. The moon so flat and dimensionless the mixed perspectives with clarity in the far distant and localized lack of focus, blur, in winged objects so much closer where a logical mind struggles to render detail. An appreciation of Surrealism allows my longings to adapt with turmoil.
Emotionality is present though the Artist’s description is at some odds with it, here narrowed to the anger or dismay or displeasure at her lover’s failures. It is a cold image, hue engendered and dream monochrome rendered. I enjoy this image, but I am chilled. Thank you for creating and posting it my friend.
